Biomarker

A measurable indicator of a biological state–easy to find, and hard to prove worth acting on.

Definition
A biomarker is a measurable characteristic that indicates a biological state, a disease process, or a response to treatment. A prognostic biomarker says how a disease is likely to behave; a predictive biomarker says whether a particular therapy will work, which is the one that changes a treatment decision.
