Each year, the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, becomes a gathering point for biologists from around the world.
The Whitman Center Fellowships offered through MBL (an affiliate of the University of Chicago) invite scientists to conduct independent or collaborative research at the laboratory for 4–10 weeks. These fellowships support work that advances biological discovery across areas such as regenerative and developmental biology, microbiomes, neuroscience, imaging, and ecosystem ecology.
According to MBL, “The Whitman Fellowship program is open to all scientists and covers laboratory rental and housing costs. Applications will be evaluated on the basis of scientific merit.”
Specialized funding opportunities are available for early-career scientists and projects focusing on imaging innovation, hemostasis, and related cellular research.
Applications for the 2026 Whitman Center Fellowship are due November 1, 2025, at 11:59 PM EST.
Eligible applicants must hold appointments at accredited institutions.
